December 11, 2018. Instagram has changed which data from your campaigns can be accessed. Here are some important changes in the Instagram campaign that you need to be aware of if you are running Instagram campaigns for rewarding comments or competitions through hashtags.

You will still be able to run this type of campaign, but the way you plan a campaign and the type of data you will be allowed to access will change.

Change on rewarding comments on Instagram

One of the favorite engagement strategies on Instagram is rewarding comments, where one of the comments from one of your posts is randomly chosen as a winner.

For a long time, Instagram campaign has held a limit of 150 recent comments on one post that could be withdrawn. This restriction is now a matter of the past. By using some existing tools, you can now collect comments from all your posts (even from those most popular that were most commented). You also do not have to plan ahead in advance.  Thanks to certain tools selection of the winner is also quite automated. This is a big positive change.

Change of hashtag competition

Everyone loves hashtags competition. You have certainly organized a large number of them so far. Here are some of the changes that you should be aware of if you are organizing an Instagram campaign with a specific hashtag (for competition).

Now you need to set up your campaign before typing your first hashtag

Instagram provided an overview of all posts for a specific hashtag at any time. You just had to wait until the end of your competition to collect all the posts that use your hashtag.

Now you have to plan ahead. The reason for this is that Instagram now only allows you to view posts from the last 24 hours, which use a specific hashtag.

Once your campaign is set up, there are certain tools that allow you to track all new posts with the selected hashtag. This allows you to bring all of the available hashtagged content. If you are waiting for the end of the campaign instead, you will only collect the posts from the last 24 hours.

Commenting and editing text on old posts will no longer be evaluated

In the past, if one of the users adds your hashtag to an old post or changes the text attaching your hashtag, this information would be collected. Now, the 24-hour rule applies in this case and the edited post will not be counted (collected) unless it is set up in the few previous days.

We come across many campaigns where participants join the competition by changing an old post by commenting it with the wanted hashtag. With the changes on Instagram, these posts will no longer participate in the competition.

The username is no longer collected

Instagram no longer shows the user name of the profile that posted using the target hashtag.

You can ask yourself: How will I know who set up a winning post?

Fortunately, Instagram provides the URL of a post with a hashtag. A visit to this link will give you information about the user who uploaded the content. Using these URLs and certain tools, you can identify who is the winner.
